Pushing The Envelope

2010 has been a fantastic year for Creo Quality, and we still have 3+ months to go! Yes, many of the client engagements have been fairly typical for our business. But we’ve also managed to “push the envelope” a little to explore some new types of projects. And we are currently in some discussions to expand our reach yet a little further.

It might sound like we are straying from our core. No, we are staying true to our expertise in the medical device / life science sector. We are, though, figuring out how to work with new types of clients in this space and projects which are more strategic in nature. We believe we have a formula to stay ahead of the curve.

What are you doing to push the envelope for your business? Does this align with your strategic vision?

I found this fascinating quote today:

So, don’t rush, but be prepared to let the world know about your ideas and know what to expect in those first few weeks. Say to yourself: “I am the parent of incredible dreams. I release them in the world like children, to grow and become mature plans.” Then, start to create a business plan that is more general to start but becomes more detailed as your idea matures.tomatofishmktg.com, Tomato Fish Marketing, May 2010

reBlog: Future-Proofing Your Company’s Vision

Most startups have a hard time defining a vision because they’ve seen visions from larger companies that seem so abstract. For example, here is a vision statement from a Fortune 500 company that I’ll leave unnamed, “Powered by Innovation, Guided by Integrity, We Help Our Customers Achieve Their Most Challenging Goals.” Generic visions like this don’t inspire or drive action and inevitably get tucked away in an employee’s desk.

Successful visions bring a unique perspective and are delivered with enough clarity and conviction to ensure they stick.

Vacation Is Good For Clearing The Head (But The Week After Is Tough)

It’s a Wednesday. Last week I was on vacation. A true vacation too. I took my laptop, intending to keep up on emails, but I accidently left the power cord at home (or did my wife take it out of my bag?).

The timing of vacation was very appropriate. We were in Charleston, SC–one of my favorite cities. Lots of R&R.

But this week has been rough! I guess the week after a vacation always is. Today has been the toughest day of the week and expect that Thursday and Friday will be much more focused. My head was spinning most of the day. The piles on my desk and emails in my inbox seemed to be taunting me. And then I realized I have to get back to basics. I pulled out the whiteboard, did a brain dump, and have started reorganizing. I also decided to take some advice that Creo Quality offers: focus on the vision and define a solid strategy. It shouldn’t have taken a vacation to remind me of this.

Are you focused on your vision and strategy?
