September: GIIRT Big Event – Featuring Speaker Gerry Dick

“Innovating Indiana’s Media”

Mark your calendars!  On September 24th, GIIRT kickstarts the new season with this year’s Big Event.  This year’s event features Mr. Gerry Dick, Inside Indiana Business News Leader and President of “Grow Indiana Media Ventures, LLC” which he co-founded with fellow Hoosier Scott Jones.

Signups for the GIIRT Big Event will begin in September.  Attendance costs $20 per person, and includes lunch, activities, camaraderie, and a keynote speech by Gerry Dick.

Indiana Convention Center Disappoints

Last week I attended the TechPoint Innovation Summit at the Indianapolis Convention Center, and I was disappointed to say the least — in the Convention Center. I had heard good news of renovations and restructuring, but was sadly disappointed. There was NO COFFEE to be found, unless I wanted to go across the street to the Starbucks — uh, no thanks. And no signage to point me in the right direction!

According to the Convention Center web site, “Indianapolis is on the verge of having one of the nation’s top 20 largest convention center complexes.” I’d agree the size is something to talk about, but I’d take quality over quantity any day!

The $275 million expansion project is anticipated to be completed by late December 2010. It will be interesting to see how the project progresses and whether my initial observations are corrected in the finished product.
