CQ Hires Amanda Schoolcraft for the Summer from Purdue University

Welcome Amanda Schoolcraft!

We are excited to announce that we have hired intern Amanda Schoolcraft fro Purdue University for the summer. Amanada graduated  from Martinsville High School in 2008 and was the recipient of the Greater Martinsville Chamber of Commerce Scholarship. She is now a sophomore in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University. Amanda is studying Biomedical Engineering at Purdue and will earn her BSMBE by May 2013. Prior to working with us this summer she is working in a research lab in order to get a head start on her thesis. She is looking for industry experience and therefore will be a great fit for our team this summer.

Perhaps of more interest is that we have decided to offer a portion of Amanda’s time with us as probono to start-ups. If you are a start-up and need help with some daily tasks, please let us know.

Give Back to Your Industry

Recently, I received a letter from the Head of the Department of Applied Biology and Biomedical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology stating…

“As Head of the department, it is my great pleasure to invite you to serve on this department advisory board. You have been chosen because your experience gives you special insight that will serve our department well and will give us important views from outside of our campus…”

So you may be asking: Why did I want to do this?

I believe it’s critical for a graduating engineer to be ready to contribute almost immediately to his / her industry. And I encourage you to become an active part of your industry.

Educational Programs Aiming to Fill Qualified Worker Needs

In January 2009, Ivy Tech Community College’s Bloomington campus and Monroe County opened The Indiana Center for the Life Sciences, a 20,000-square-foot training center. The goal of the center is to train new work force for the life sciences arena.

Life sciences is a fast growing field and the need for qualified workers is growing. Apparently, students aren’t rushing in to the life science industry, according to director John Stephens, but last year Ivy Tech graduated 23 students and 20 of them were immediately employed.

So how do life science hubs like Bloomington attract more students to the life science industry and their educational programs? Keep your eye out for the answer in the coming weeks blog posts.

Greetings from Rose-Hulman Career Services!

If you have not already registered to reserve your space at our 2010 Spring Career Fair, there is still time! Our priority registration deadline is Monday, April 12th. If you have already registered, we look forward to seeing you soon!

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 21, 2010 and is FREE to attend. This Fair will provide you with a final opportunity to meet with and interview some of the nation’s top students in science, engineering and math. We provide lunch, and snacks/drinks throughout the day, and think this would be a great opportunity for you to visit campus and get connected with excellent talent for your hiring needs.

The Fair runs from 11:00am to 4:00pm and will give you a chance to meet with both graduating seniors and undergraduate students. Students of all years and all disciplines will be present to discuss internship and co-op opportunities, and plenty of seniors will also be in attendance looking for full-time employment. In previous years, 500-600 students have attended this event, and we expect interest to be great this year!

September 25, 2009 – Greater Indy Innovation Roundtable (GIRRT)

Greater Indy Innovation Roundtable Luncheon

September 25th from 11am-1pm

The group (GIIRT) is about fostering innovation in businesses of all sizes and in all markets. Our next gathering, “The Big Event”, is a re-launch of sorts to really raise awareness about GIIRT and start our official cycles of “Connect – Learn – Do.”

GIIRT is not a networking-thing, but a medium in which creative people can meet, discuss issues with processes, services, or products, and collaborate with peers in a high-level-problem-solving fashion. We also share and showcase innovation success stories, and offer education by inviting people that have shown some real innovation and created some real outcome to talk about how that outcome came to be.

Candice and Pete Kissinger, founders of Bio-Analytical Systems (BASi), what is now a huge company based in Purdue Research Park, will be speaking on how fostering innovation created and is now sustaining the very successful and growing company that it is today.  You can find out more about this event here.
