Social Media Is A Marketing Tactic–Not A Strategy

I’m tired of reading articles, blog posts, tweets, etc. suggesting that businesses need a social media expert and a social media strategy. I’m sorry, but I don’t agree.
Businesses need a marketing strategy. And yes, the marketing strategy should consider use of social media. But isn’t social media one of MANY marketing tactics?

To a hammer all problems look like a nail. Last decade it was CRM before that it was something else. This is the decade of Social Media. Get ready for more articles coming down the pipe. You are absolutely right - you need a sound strategy before you develop the tactics. Social Media is a tactic and many seem to forget that. But hey who is listening - it is one big echo chamber.

@PK - I guess if I wasn’t active on twitter and other social media, I would hear less about how important it is.
