Our client is a well established, profitable and fast growing medical device company. Along with their broad portfolio of existing products, they are looking to spur their organic growth by building their product development team. They are looking to bring a Principal R&D Engineer on board with solid overall product development and project management skills.

King Systems originated in 1977 in Noblesville, Indiana as a small family owned and operated business. Today, this global organization, a division of Consort Medical, consists of 125,000 square feet of building space and employs over 500 people.

As a custom manufacturer of anesthesia and respiratory care products, King Systems offers full research and development, quality assurance, marketing, and sales operations. Although its products are shipped to nearly every continent, the company takes pride in its American made products. King Systems now offers more than 3,500 different circuit configurations, four product lines of face masks, and hundreds of other products.

King Systems’ success is based upon one goal and that is improving patient care while making the practitioner’s job easier and more efficient. This can be seen through our Universal F2® single-limb circuit, our face masks, breathing bags, and our complete line of pediatric products including Rainbow Breathing Bags® and Sweet Dreams™ face masks, as well as other products that exemplify the company’s relentless innovation in search of compassionate solutions.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Responsible for the design and development of new products, as well as the technical leadership for managing the product development projects through phase-gate process from concept generation to market launch.

I. RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Lead the design and the development of airway management and anesthesia products

· Lead cross-functional project teams to drive product development projects through phase gate product development process from concept generation to market launch.

· Work with clinicians, end users, and marketing to define and evaluate new innovative product concepts to address unmet customer and business needs.

· Research materials, products, technologies, test methods, and assembly/fabrication processes.

· Work with outside contractors and vendors, and internal engineering group to design prototypes for early stage concept evaluation and conduct evaluation to establish feasibility study.

· Manage, direct and track work of outside contractors and consultants to execute project deliverables on time and on budget.

· Work with attorneys to establish and assess intellectual property landscape, and to build intellectual property portfolio for the product category.

· Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to monitor project progress, manage critical path activities, and to ensure adherence to project milestones and timelines.

· Work with Project Coordinator and project team members to prepare presentation materials including all project deliverables required for gate review meetings and ensure that the criteria for each gate are met.

· Utilize project management skills to effective manage all aspects of the projects, communication, budget, and recommend reallocation of resources, as necessary.

· Work cooperatively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Clinical and Marketing on project deliverables to ensure all phases of the projects are successfully executed and completed on time and on budget.

· Work with project coordinator to ensure all project documentation and the Design History Files are in order per Design Control Process.

· Assist functional leads to conduct due diligence on emerging technologies and products for partnership, licensing, and acquisition opportunities.

· May supervise or coach a junior engineer or a technician, as needed.

II. QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

· Bachelor degree or Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Graduate degree is preferred.

· Minimum of 10 years of hands-on work experience in the development of new products, at least 5 of those years in the medical device industry.

· Experience in the design, development and launching disposable medical devices such as catheters, cannulas, or related disposable devices.

· Proven track record of developing and bringing new medical devices from concept generation to market launch, as demonstrated by significant new product sales and issued patents.

· Proficient in PC tools such as MS Word, Project, Excel, PowerPoint.

· Proficient in part design and in working with CAD software such as SolidWorks or ProE.

· Ability to communicate (oral and written) before different groups, customers and management team and in project documentation.

· Ability to work independent of direct supervision.

· Ability to work well with others.

· Strong results orientation.

· Outstanding leadership and organization skills.
