Gentry Martial Arts Helps Build Confidence
I started taking taekwondo about a year and a half ago. My son had won a free month at Gentry Martial Arts in Martinsville. I made a deal with him: If he stuck with and got his white belt, I would start taking class with him. He did, and we’ve been taking class together ever since. TKD has been a great experience for both of us for very different reasons. For my son, taekwondo is helping him with confidence, responsibility, and discipline. For me, it’s a chance to bond with my son, be humbled by watching much younger classmates do things I can’t, exercise, and stress relief.
After a few months of taking class, I learned that Gentry Martial Arts is a very special place. And it goes far beyond martial arts education. The school’s master, Brandon Sieg, is a huge asset for the community. Through martial arts instruction, he is helping kids in the community become good citizens. The instruction is more than just kicking and striking. Students learn responsibility, control, discipline, competition, friendship, leadership–I could go on.
GMA is also very active in the community. Every time one of the area’s towns has a parade, Gentry students march in the parade. GMA gives demonstrations at community events. Gentry Martial Arts builds confidence in students but also for the community.
I think communities forget about assets like Gentry Martial Arts. Why is that?
