Medical Device Industry’s Best Friend is FDA

July 17th, 2007 by Jon Speer

Not many believe the title of this post. FDA’s intent is to protect consumers. Medical device industry’s intent is to introduce life saving, sustaining, and other products to improve quality of life for consumers. FDA is the gatekeeper for new devices and technologies.

In my opinion, industry and consumers are best served by an educated and experienced FDA. Is this possible? I don’t know the pay and benefits for FDA personnel. However, I’m sure the financial potential is greater in the private sector. MDUFMA helped provide necessary funding for FDA. In response, FDA seems more engaged with inspections and other regulatory activities since. But are the days of an active FDA going away? According to this post from MD&DI’s Device Talk, maybe.
