CQ Secret Weapon

Okay, I think it’s time to let you all know about a secret weapon at Creo Quality. Her name is Amanda Britton, and she’s been part of the CQ team now for three years. For most of this time, Amanda has assisted with bookkeeping and website updates. It became clear to me that her understanding of CQ’s business, the needs of our clients, her drive and determination, and organizational skills could be put to great use on client projects.

For the past several months, Amanda has been assisting with quite a few client projects. I’m confident that she knows more about what constitutes a FDA complaint better than many medical device companies. She has also been responsible for the recent momentum we are making with a startup medical device product development project.

Since starting my business, I have been somewhat reticent to have others work under the CQ brand. I want to make sure that anyone representing CQ has drive, determination, and ability to get the job done. Amanda defines this and reinforces our brand. I’m glad she’s part of my team.

Thank You For Doctors, Nurses, Medical Devices, & Pharmaceuticals

Those who know me have likely heard about my auspicious entry into the medical device industry. Those same people have also heard me say that I can’t imagine working in another field and am humbled that some of the medical devices I get to help develop might improve the quality of life and maybe even help save a life or two.

After this past weekend, I want to expand on this philosophy a bit more. Without going into too much detail, I am in awe of the doctors and nurses who treat patients every single day. I have revered medical professionals before, but lately have found a new higher level of respect and appreciation. And the combination of proven pharmaceuticals, medical devices, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals is just amazing. To see a loved one literally transform because of this team of medical resources was truly breathtaking and remarkable.

The Days Blur Together

I recently came across this quote from Startup Vitamins and thought it appropriate, especially as I prepare for the week ahead:

anyone running a startup has to treat Saturday the same way they treat Monday

Yes, the days tend to run together for me and CQ.

Thank You – Joe Disney Joe’s Automotive

My mechanic Joe Disney is a fantastic guy and terrific mechanic. I’ve trusted him with the care of my vehicles for the past 14 years. He’ll pick me up and drop me off whenever repairing my car. Yes, it’s true I only live a couple miles away. But I know he will do the same thing for anyone who asks.

Joe, thank you for all you do to keep my vehicles in top shape. You know I will put on the miles and drive until the tires fall off and then have tires to replace them.

It just struck me and decided to post about it.

Thank You – Adam Decker & Veros Partners

When I started Creo Quality several years ago, I knew that having a top-notch accountant was a business necessity. I wanted to find someone I trust. And fortunately, I already knew Adam Decker from Veros Partners. Our mothers grew up as best friends.

Adam, you and the Veros team have been fantastic for Creo Quality. Your accounting and tax preparation make my life much simpler. Your sound, savvy business advice has always helped us be just a little better. Thank you for all you do to help Creo Quality succeed.

Thank You – Jeremy Hill Bingham Greenbaum Doll

Several years ago, I reconnected with Jeremy Hill, an attorney at Bingham Greenbaum Doll. Jeremy and I spent part of our youth playing little league baseball together in Morgantown, IN. When we reconnected several years later, I had already started Creo Quality and at a stage where having sound legal counsel made sense. I decided Jeremy was the right guy for the job.

Jeremy, as Creo Quality continues to grow and evolve, we are grateful to have you as part of our team. Thank you for what you do!

Two People I Want to Meet

Mark Cuban and Daymond John. If you know me, you know I’m a fan of Shark Tank. I enjoy watching Mr. Cuban and Mr. John on the show. Each seems to provide the most savvy advice to budding entrepreneurs.

Why do I want to meet them? Mark Cuban got his break in software. I’m working on a software solution for medical device industry. Plus, he went to Indiana University. And IU is kind of in my backyard.

Daymond is a fashion GOD! Because of my Bestie, I only started appreciating fashion within the past couple years. But now that I do, I think Mr. John would be a great person to chat with. Plus, he always seems so peronable on Shark Tank, willing to work with aspiring entrepreneurs.

If you know Mark and/or Daymond, I would VERY much appreciate an introduction.

4Moms Seems to Know How to Design Products

I stumbled across this video the other day for 4Moms Origami stroller:

My jaw dropped. What a wonderful product! Granted, my kids are long past the stroller stage. But the design of the product is elegant. And their solution solves a real issue parents and grandparents have: collapsing / opening a stroller easily.

I decided to check out the 4Moms website to see what other products they have designed and came across the Breeze pack-n-play product:

Yes, the pack-n-play is another child care product that is not easy to set up. Again, 4Moms seems to have solved this too.

When I come across good product design solutions, it makes me smile.

I wonder if the 4Moms team has any interest in medical product design?

Okay, I admit it. I want to meet Mark Cuban.

I’m such a fan of Shark Tank–have been for years. I became a bigger fan when Mark Cuban joined the cast. Why? I appreciate his brutal honesty. Plus, I like that he spent his formidable years in my backyard at Indiana University (go Hoosiers!). I just got done watching the most recent episode of the “tank”. Yes, I would love an opportunity to meet Mark Cuban. I’ll buy a ticket to Dallas if that matters.

And yes, I do have a pitch for him. I’m developing UniDoc and would like to pick his brain about his interest in investing in the medical device industry. If you know how to reach Mr. Cuban, please pass this along to him. Thanks.

If It’s Worth Doing

It’s worth doing right. The first time.

And it doesn’t matter what it is. Whether you are developing a new medical device or cleaning shirts. I had a recent experience with the latter to remind me of this.

A new dry cleaner recently opened in my town. I had some shirts which needed cleaned and pressed and decided to give them a try. I picked up the shirts the other day and left them in the customary plastic bag on the cheap wire hangers. When I got home, I removed the bag to hang the freshly pressed shirts in my closet.

I quickly noticed one of the shirts was still very wrinkled. A second still had a small stain near the collar–a stain I pointed out when dropping the shirts off. So I took these two shirts back to the dry cleaner to address.

At first they tried to make it seem like it was something I did or didn’t do. Eventually, they acknowledged the work was not to the quality and standard they would like and took them back to take care of at no additional charge.

As I exited, I had some mixed opinions. They should have done the job right the first time. But at least they were going to (hopefully) do it right the second time.

Yes, I know I am talking about dry cleaning and pressing shirts. This definitely applies to everything we do, though, including that new medical device concept you might have. Trouble is, we don’t always know what “right” is, especially in the beginning of our journey. Not everything is as simple as cleaning shirts.

Don’t let this discourage you. Don’t let the fear of making a mistake or two keep you from putting your ideas out there. Do learn from your mistakes and keep making progress.
