A Day In The Life (Feb. 16, 2010)

As I sit in a hotel in Warsaw, IN, I’m reflecting on a strange, yet fairly typical day in the life of Jon Speer of Creo Quality. Here’s a recap:

  • 6:30am – Woke up and went out to check the condition of the neighborhood road. I’m the director of the homeowner association and am in charge of calling the snow plow, salting, sanding when needed.
  • 7:30am – Ate breakfast, started a fire, hung out with the kids for a few (they had another snow day).
  • 8:00am – Caught up on emails, did a little bit of work.
  • 10:30am – Headed to Spencer, IN for a lunch meeting.
  • 11:30am – Had lunch with Shelley Vance, owner of Medical Polymers–a medical contract manufacturer, and former client. I was pleased to learn that Creo Quality had a positive influence on their business in 2009.
  • 1:00pm – Headed to Tomato Fish Marketing–one of CQ’s “offices” (thanks Brooke).
  • 2:30pm – Met with Brooke DeRam of TFM, CQ’s marketing resource, to discuss blog posts, enewsletter, etc.
  • 3:00pm – More emails (yuck!) and project management work for orthopedic client.
  • 5:45pm – Headed out to meet with Kristian Andersen (KA+Associates, Gravity Ventures) & Elliott Parker (Innovo Partners)
  • 6:00pm – Dinner & shop talk with Kristian & Elliott
  • 7:30pm – Drive to Warsaw to be on-site at orthopedic company tomorrow.
  • 10:00pm – Yet more emails . . .
  • 11:15pm – Writing this blog post

Today was interesting because of the stark contrasts: Lunch in a local bar in Spencer to dinner in a trendy up-scale pub in Broad Ripple. The best part of all of today’s experiences were the opportunities to connect with people. Some representing customers, some representing service providers, some representing future business.

I wish all days included this kind of variety. However, February 17 is a day to generate revenue. I’ll be on site at a client managing a complex project with a challenging timeline.

Ben – I was only in Warsaw Wednesday. I’ll be coming up every week for the next couple months. Next week, I’ll be there Wednesday – Thursday. Maybe we could catch up Wednesday evening.
