Can Imagine Printing Human Tissues & Organs?

I remember the first SLA prototype I had about 10 years ago. It was absolutely amazing product development experience for all involved in the project. I believe it helped improve success.

I’m going to grossly over-simplify the SLA and other rapid-prototyping processes. But basically, these processes print 3D models one layer at a time.

Organovo, a Southern California company, is developing 3D bio-printers. From their website:

To create useful tissue for repair and transplantation, Organovo strives to reproduce the tissue microarchitecture that is essential to proper in vivo function, including the vasculature required for blood flow and oxygenation.

This will be exciting to watch. Think about the possibilities: organ transplants, skin grafts, coronary by-pass.
