The Indianapolis 500 is the world’s greatest attended one-day sporting event. The Brickyard 400 (NASCAR) is also a huge event. Both events are held at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. IMS has also played host to Formula 1 and Motor GP events, among others.
Many racing teams call the Indy area home. Many others have significant operations in the Circle City. When I think of motorsports and racing, two cities come to mind: Daytona, FL and Indianapolis. Indy needs to leverage IMS, the 500, Brickyard 400, etc. as assets and strengths.
Indiana’s rich history in automotive manufacturing has been hit hard in recent years. However, this manufacturing presence could also become a strong asset for Indy. Indianapolis has more than 400 companies and 8,800 workers in the motorsports industry.
