I Got A Letter From My U.S. Representative!

Okay, Steve Buyer is not a rock star. But he is a U.S. Representative and I got a letter from him. Why? I recently contacted him stating my opposition to the medical device tax proposed as part of Congress’ Health Care reform. Representative Buyer acknowledged my message and shared some of his opinions on the matter.

The medical device industry is an important piece to Indiana’s economy. Taxing top-line revenue on med device companies has the potential to negatively influence jobs throughout Indiana and the country.

I won’t put the entire letter in this post but will share an excerpt:

I am concerned about the tax on medical devices proposed in both the House and Senate health care reform bill, and I have voiced my concerns to the House leadership. On October 7, 2009, I joined several of my colleagues in sending a letter to Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Hoyer expressing my concern about the $4 billion annual tax on medical device manufacturers included [in the] Senate legislation, America’s Healthy Future Act (S. 1796). I believe a tax on medical devices would cost Americans thousands of jobs, increase the cost of health insurance, and detrimentally impact the innovation of new life-saving medical devices. With the strong presence of medical device manufacturers in Indiana, Hoosiers would be especially hit by such a tax.

If you have concerns about health care reform or any legislative matter, I encourage you to contact your Senators and Representatives. If enough of us speak up, maybe true reform that helps America will happen.
