Economy Affects Life Science Funding Across the Country

From Massachusetts – Economic Woes Hobble Initiative:

“The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center had been planning to issue $25 million worth of grants this fiscal year, but the weakening economy reduced the available funds, after costs to operate the center, to $12 million. In July, new grant funds will become available.”

From Indiana – Governor Suspends Funding for Indiana Life Science Fund:

“The proposed budget would suspend funding for the Indiana Life Sciences Fund, which is a $20 million pool to help Indiana and Purdue Universities attract top faculty and innovators.”

“. . . elimination of the 21st Century Research and Technology Fund is not part of the budget plan.”

I’ve also been reading several articles and blog posts about decreases in venture investments.
